This project's goal was to rebuild the stock ford instrument cluster using
aftermarket gauges; I chose the Autometer Sport-Comp line. I would have preferred to
use their Phantom or Lunar series, but they were just too darned expensive for my pocketbook.
The reason was that I was tired of the "accuracy" of the stock Ford gauges because now that
I'm messing around with the engine I wanted to keep closer tabs on it's operating parameters.

Even using the Sport-Comp gauges it was not a cheap project, with a total cost around $460.
But for me the custom look, enhanced accuracy, and the (ah-hem) 160mph speedometer make
the time, effort, and expense worthwhile. Besides, it's a whole lot less expensive
than a new car would be! JR is a lot more comfortable than my wife's Mustang anyway, at least IMHO.

So, if you're interested in the complete story of how I created a high-quality, professional looking
instrument cluster for my 1987 Ford Thunderbird TurboCoupe (IMHO, quite possibly the best touring car
ever built) then you've come to the right place. Click on the links below for the web article, and
(hopefully) enough information for you to duplicate this fun and useful project. Enjoy my
"adventure in customization"!
